Web design, HTML & CSS, Branding
January 2025
Here's a quick look into the process of designing and building this website.
My design approach extends to any and all types of design, including logo design. The first step is be a kid in a sandbox; simply just play around.
For this logo, I started by sketching random things that came into my brain until an idea started to form. It took shape quite quickly. The result is something simple on first impression, but more complex as you look closer.
Is it a leaf? A bow? A fairy wing? Totally depends on my mood. Or yours.
Ah, typography. It can take a looooong time for me to choose a typeface for a project. At times it can even be harder than choosing colours.
However, for this project I didn't have to look further than the Google fonts homepage.
DM Sans is modern, clean, and readable. It also come with a huge array of font weights, which is always a big plus.
I agonized over colours for this project. I tried so many combinations but nothing was clicking, nothing really felt like me. And then I tried a dark theme, and it all came together.
I'm someone who uses dark mode for everything so it only made sense that my own website was also dark theme.
Of course, I had to spice it up a little bit by bringing some gradients (though I know a certain university prof that would hate me for it).
This website is built with pure HTML and CSS. Name a more iconic duo, I'll wait.
In the first year of my undergrad I was introduced to computer programming. My program required quite a few computer science courses, and to my surprise, I loved them. In fact, I loved them so much I decided to take as many as possible which led me to achieve a minor in computer science.
To this day I love playing around with HTML & CSS, and pushing the limits of what it can do. Yes, there are fancier tools that exist (looking at you, Webflow), but something about going back to the roots of the internet and markup language was meaningful to me.
Whatever you do, just don't look at my commit names on Github...
